BCS Programs

Bergen Chinese School (BCS) offers two series of classes – Language & Culture Learning classes and Practical Chinese classes.

Language and Culture Learning Classes
The language and culture learning classes are designed for students who can practice Mandarin at home. In the classrooms, teachers instruct in Mandarin to facilitate students’ learning. Students gradually build up their abilities in Chinese listening and reading comprehensions, communications and literacy. Students are generally fluent in speaking and writing of Chinese when they graduate from BCS. In addition to language art, students have an opportunity to explore Chinese cultures as part of the class curriculum. There are ten classes available from age of four and up. Practical Chinese Classes

Practical Chinese classes are designed for students who want to learn Chinese regardless of their backgrounds. In the classrooms, teachers teach in English and emphasize word recognition, sentence structures and translation exercises. Students learn the effective ways to sound, recognize and write Chinese characters and to handle daily conversations such as greeting, shopping, traveling, inquiring information, etc. In the class of “Practical Chinese conversation”, teachers teach situational dialogues about places familiar to students allowing the students to quickly apply their leaning to daily life. There are three classes available from age of four and up. Please refer to the following for details.

博根中文學校課程簡介
本校課程分為「語言文化班」及「實用中文班」兩個體系。

「語言文化班」

包括從四歲開始的啟蒙班、幼稚班、小學部、初中部、及高中部，適合有中文背景基礎的學生，課堂上以中文教學，採用國語注音及全新版華語課本，教授正體字，訓練學生在聽說讀寫四方面齊頭並進。

近年來，初中部及以上班級教學內容並加入漢語拼音及簡體字介紹。高中部教材中更溶入電腦中文打字、及「SAT Subject Test – Chinese」內容(包含聽力、語法及閱讀)，2005年即有一位同學在正式的SAT – Chinese 測驗中獲得滿分800分。

在文化方面，配合各年級的不同程度，逐漸加入由淺入深的中華文化介紹，包含歷史、地理、節慶、食物、及哲學等。另有一學期數堂的文化課，增加學生對文化的了解，可自由選擇美勞、書法、棋藝、國畫、及中國武術等。高中部則有每學期一次的校外觀摩活動。

高中部另有「中華文藝欣賞班」及「大學先修班」兩班，使高年級同學在課程上有更多的選擇。除此之外，本校教學組更致力於AP中文教學的師資培養及課程規劃，以期在不久的將來，本校的中文課程能幫助學生在實際生活中達到更上一層的效益。

「實用中文班」

另一個體系則是新增為任何背景的學生而設計的「實用中文班」，採用新澤西州中文教師王姚文老師所編寫的「實用中文」教材，此套教材採用中英雙語教學，教授漢語拼音與正體字，教學內容生活化，著重認字句型及日常生活會話，所學能馬上在生活中付諸實用。

目前「實用中文班」為一年級以上之學生開設兩班，依照年齡及程度編班，請注意除學費之外，每位學生將負擔額外 $20之材料費。
